Welcome to   Jane's Blog
Since becoming a Marine mom in 2003, I have learned how important it is for military parents to connect with other military parents, not to believe everything in print or on television, and that every one of us has a strength deep down inside to draw upon when we need it most.

My hope here is to honor the troops and to share online resources, letting you know that you are not alone.

"Success, recognition, and conformity are the bywords of the modern world where everyone

seems to crave the anesthetizing security of being identified with the majority."

Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love, 1963.

Dunno why but when I read this quote it kind of reminded me of sheep, sheep dogs, and wolves. Maybe I was reading it wrong, I don't know.

Then I decided to surf on over to BLACKFIVE since I hadn't been there in a few days to see what was up. Lo and behold, there was the sheep, sheep dog, and wolves poem. Now how odd is that...?

If you have a sec, go check out  "The Sheepdogs", penned by

Russ Vaughn, 2d Bn, 327th Parachute Infantry Regiment,101st Airborne Division
Vietnam 65-66.

He served in Viet Nam when Martin Luther King was making speeches...

I'm extremely grateful for men and women like this... the Sheepdogs.

This past summer I received an email from a lady out west, wanting to know if she could send us something for the patients at Bethesda.

Esther heads a group of knitters and crocheters who make afghans to support the troops, and baby items to support the families stationed at a Naval Air Station in Florida. The Ladies in her group make afghan squares as they have time, mails them to Esther, and as she has time, she sews them together. When she has a boxful finished, she mails them to me. I take them when we go to Bethesda and pass them out. The group is called "Hooks and Needles for Our Troops".

Okay so it is really February 21st, 2009.

Brenda sent me this link to pictures of the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. There really are some beautiful pictures there. Pictures of former President Bush's departure from D.C are also included.
