Since becoming a Marine mom in 2003, I have learned how important it is for military parents to connect with other military parents,
not to believe everything in print or on television, and that every one of us has a strength deep down inside to draw upon when we
need it most.
My hope here is to honor the troops and to share online resources, letting you know that you are not alone.

Sept. 10, 2009
A friend pointed me in the direction of
this site that has military art. I got lost in it
and found the painting below. Teresa and I had seen
Sky's painting in the visitor's center when we were at
Arlington National
Cemetery. Pretty powerful. With his permission I have posted it here. If you click on the picture, you can read his narrative
about the painting.
A combat wounded Viet Nam Veteran, Mr. Skypeck is
asking for comments about where you think his memorial
"Assured Victory...A
09-11-2001 & War On Terrorism Memorial "
should permanently be displayed. Let him know what you think. I did.
He asked
me to pass this on to you:
Tell those close to you that I will not remove the painting until these wars are won..."De Oppresso Liber" was our motto in the Special
Forces in Nam....and the title means what it says....Thanks..."SKY"
If you like the painting, there are a limited number of the prints for sale, signed and numbered
here where the proceeds
from the sale of the prints go to Blind American Veterans Foundation to help the troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and their
families..
Christmas is right around the corner and Mary Lou is busy collecting things for Operation Santa to send to Marines who are
deployed!
Operation Santa 2009
It is time to start gearing up for OPERATION SANTA 2009. Our local Marine
Corps Reserve Unit is
deploying next month and we are adopting the whole
battalion PLUS two more companies of Marines making it about 1400 Marines!
Last year
our postage alone was $2288.70 and that was for 700 Marines.
So we are hoping all of you who have helped us sponsor in the past, will
help
us again this year and perhaps tell your families and friends about
Operation Santa too! Remember, nothing is too small to donate.
We
never have too many cards to send either, so if any of you are inclined
to write some cards, they would be appreciated too.
Deadline
for items donated is October 31, 2009.
Semper Fi and God Bless our military, our country and our families,
Mary Lou

Mission Statement: Provide
a safe and comfortable recreational program on the water to all our honorably discharged, active duty, and families that
have experienced the stress of military life; to aid in the recuperation and rehabilitation of our wounded warriors; assist
with the reintegration to civilian life to all the brave men and women who have given so much; to enhance and improve the lives of
the military community as a whole.
When I checked mail yesterday there was a huge box of "Trail of Tears Rememberance Motorcycle Ride" t-shirts from the
Trail of Tears
group and the Southern Tennessee Chapter of
Bikers for Christ. These will be given out to the wounded troops at Bethesda by
Marine Moms-Bethesda. Thank you Grizz and all those who were in on this very generous donation!
A few weeks ago, Gold Star Mom Cathy sent us some beaded Iraq and Afghanistan campaign ribbons that she made for us to hand out. Thank
you, Cathy! They are beautiful and I know they will be appeciated by the troops!
Congratulations Dee!
For those of you who were following Dee in the Energizer Bunny contest, DEE WON!

On August 20, 2009, the

The Choptank Marine Corps League
Detachment and Marine Moms-Bethesda,

I was honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the

at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
Tomorrow is September 11, 2009. I will spend the day in remembrance of this day eight years ago.
All profits from the sale of items in the MM-B store benefit
of serving
