Since becoming a Marine mom in 2003, I have learned how important it is for military parents to connect with other military parents,
not to believe everything in print or on television, and that every one of us has a strength deep down inside to draw upon when we
need it most.
My hope here is to honor the troops and to share online resources, letting you know that you are not alone.

National Museum of the Marine Corps
Last month I received an email from the Commandant of one of the MCL detachments -
"Jane,
Our Detachment is sponsoring
a bus trip to the Marine Corps League Museum and we have some empty seats left. If you or any of the Moms are interested in going,
you're welcome to join us."
The other moms weren't able to go, but my husband and I went.
Where to begin...
Walking up to the museum. There is a mast that comes out of the top of the building that you don't see in the picture.
Today's Fight - Iraq and Afghanistan
Semper Fidelis Memorial Park
Boot camp to boots on the ground.
A replica of Tun's Tavern to Today's Fight.
And everything in between.
You just
have to see it for yourself.
Don't skip the intro page and have your sound up.
When I told some friends we'd be going to the Museum, and asked if there was anything that was a "must see",, Laura told
me to look for "The Backpack".
We found it.
It weighs what it would when the guys wear it fully packed and there are instructions on how to get down, strap it on, then stand
up.
It weighs around 80 pounds.
My husband was able to do it.
Me...
ALL I could do was laugh at myself!
I couldn't budge it.
And our Marines wear them day in and day out while out on
patrol...
Jane and Jim in front of the Museum store.
This end of the timeline.
There was an incredible exhibit
of World War !! photography that I didn't take
pictures of, a 9/11 exhibit, a map showing where the USMC
is in the world, an exhibit of the Women Marines, the Corpsmen, the Boot Camp experience, and more - just
so much to see.
Many, MANY thanks to the members and friends of Marine Corps League Detachment 439 for your caring and generosity with your donations
that day of the door prize items to Marine Moms - Bethesda for the wounded and injured combat Veterans at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
All profits from the sale of items in the MM-B store benefit
of serving
combat wounded Veterans
and their families..
