Marine Moms-Bethesda is having a quilt raffle to raise money for their luncheons.
I love quilts, have made a few myself although
nothing like this one.
I thought I would post some pictures of the squares from
"Baskets of Love".
One of our Elfs made it and it is gorgeous.
Twin size, just the right size to curl up under in a chair to read
a book.
When I went over to Chris' house to look at it and to pick some other things up from her for Bethesda, I
had it wrapped all around me without even realizing it as we were talking.
I was telling her about how we had taken one of the
quilts she had made and wrapped a Marine Mom up in it
on 5 East.
"Look at YOU!", she said. Sure enough, I had it around my shoulders, hugging it tightly.
She told me she has $100.00 in the fabric
and $300.00 in the quilting. She had the longarm quilter do custom stitching on it. This doesn't include the time
she herself has put into the quilt, cutting it out, piecing it and stitching it together.
Chris said she made the quilt
with the troops in mind. She really believes in what we are doing at Bethesda and wanted to donate the quilt to us.
Quilting
is her passion.
You can tell by seeing her handiwork.
We have a luncheon scheduled every month for the rest of the year at the hospital and the proceeds from the raffle will go a long
way toward helping us with the cost of them.
We'll be rotating the luncheons between 5 East and Mercy Hall.
Or wouldn't it be nice to help a disabled Marine get set up with a business, say... doing t-shirts or mugs from his home...
The
machines to do this don't cost that much - could be done for under $2,000.00.
It's not always easy transitioning back into
civilian life...
Or expand to another place like Brooke or Balboa or one of the other Wounded Warriror Regiments.
Who knows... maybe next year we'll be able to do one a month at each place.
We would need more funding to do this... and more help.
These are just a few of the dreams I have for where Marine Moms-Betheda could go...

Continued prayers for our Military and their families.
Since becoming a Marine mom in 2003, I have learned how important it is for military parents to connect with other military parents,
not to believe everything in print or on television, and that every one of us has a strength deep down inside to draw upon when we
need it most.
My hope here is to honor the troops and to share online resources, letting you know that you are not alone.
