The Holidays are right around the corner and the Marine Moms-Bethesda "Elfs"

are making their lists  and checking them twice!

We will be holding a luncheon at Mercy Hall on December 2, 2010
and plans are to wind up the year with something special for the troops!

We'll have a holiday meal with all the sides, stockings stuffed full with the help of "Elfs",
handed out by special "Santa Marines" from Choptank Marine Corps League Detachment #439,
cookies for each warrior from our "Cookie Elfs",
and bundles of holiday cards all tied up in ribbon from well wishers across the country!
Would you like to be one of Marine Moms-Bethesda's "Elfs"?
Here is how you can help!
Holiday and Christmas Card "Elfs"
Cards may be mailed to

Marine Moms-Bethesda - Holiday Cheer
P.O. Box 22
Cordova, MD 21625

10/15/2010 -- Final Postmark Date for "Card Elfs" is NOVEMBER 1, 2010.

Changed from Oct. 15th - not many cards so far.... Let's let 'em know we care!

One card or many with a short handwritten note from you.
We will screen them, bundle them and tie them up with ribbon!

Please follow the "Elfs" guidelines when sending cards:

Please keep the notes upbeat, supportive, and cheerful.

Flat-faced cards only! NO glitter, paste, flocking, sequins, pom poms, or anything else that can fall off of the cards. These can get into open wounds and cause secondary infections.
Every year we are sent a few glitter cards and every year they go into the round recycle bin.

Please, no enclosures inside the cards.

Cards may be sent with or without an envelope, but please do not seal the envelope.

If cards are sent in the same box or envelope from more than one person, please rubber band the same signatures together - this helps the sorting go so much easier for the "Elfs".

We cannot guarantee that the cards will go to a specific service branch.

If you would like to include cards for the hospital and Marine Liaison staff who work with the patients, please do!

This is not a dating service, care package service, or pen pal service.
Please do not include your mailing address, email adddress, or phone number inside the card.
We do not pass on this information.

The "Elfs"  screen every card.

Stocking "Elfs"

Homemade stockings stitched by Bayside Quilters "Elfs" will be stuffed
full of special goodies by our "Elfs" and handed out by "Santa Marines".

Would you like to help Marine Moms-Bethesda fill stockings for "Holiday Cheer at Bethesda"?
You can do the shopping or let the MM-B "Elfs" do the shopping!

Final Postmark Date for "Stocking Elfs" is November 1, 2010.

Marine Moms-Bethesda - Holiday Cheer
P.O. Box 22
Cordova. MD 21625

"Santa's Workshop" will primarily be Target and Best Buy, so if you would like the "Elfs" to do the shopping for you, gift cards for either of those locations for stocking stuffers are extremely useful, as are checks or money orders made out to
"Marine Moms Bethesda" with "Holiday Cheer" noted on the memo line..

If you do the shopping, please use the wish list below. The "Elfs" paid close attention last year when stockings were opened, so they have a good idea of what the favorite gifts were!

Gift certificates to:
McDonalds
Dunkin Donuts
Starbucks
Amazon
Best Buy
Target
Borders
iTunes
Netflix

Phone cards

Portable USB drives (thumbdrives)

Micro-SD cards (for use in digital cameras/smartphones)

Earbuds (itty bitty headphones)

Leather driving gloves OR athletic style gloves (suitable for wearing while running)

"Smartwool" socks

Small handcrafted items--but remember that they cannot have glitter or anything else that might fall off! They can get into open wounds, causing secondary infections.

Knit caps & scarves--Gap and Old Navy tend to have a nice selection that are often on sale.

Christmas tree ornaments (again--no glitter or anything that might fall off!) from your part of the country such as: flamingos or Santa in a Hawaiian shirt from Florida, crabs from Maryland, hot sauce from Texas, with a brief note of thanks or well-wishes attached.

We are extremely grateful for all donations, however shopping for Bethesda is a unique experience.  Unlike sending care packages to Iraq or Afghanistan, the out-patients at Bethesda have access to both shopping on base and the stores around Bethesda and DC.

Their basic, practical needs are met, so we want to be sure that the items in their stockings aren't things that they would/could simply run out and pick up for themselves.   Bethesda also tends to be a transient place, so we would rather not weigh folks down with things that they will likely leave behind. The same goes for the inpatients - basic needs are met, they have very little storage room, and they will eventually be moving on to another place to continue their recovery.

Thank you so much for being a Marine Moms-Bethesda "Elf" at this most special time of year!
Cookie "Elfs"

Local Cookie "Elfs" will be baking up a storm and each warrior will recieve a container of homemade cookies made with love!

Luncheon "Elfs"

Rounding out "Holiday Cheer at Bethesda", our luncheon volunteers and members of the Choptank Marine Corps League Detachment will be serving up a holiday meal complete with turkey, stuffing, ham and all the sides!
