This year marks the 60 anniversary of the nationwide Toys for Tots program.
The program got its start in 1947 when Marine
Corps Major Bill Hendricks and a group of fellow Marine Corps reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy
children.
In 2007, Toys for Tots distributed 16.7 million toys to 7.5 million children nationwide.
If you would like to
help with this worthwhile project, you can find a drop-off point here.
They accept new, unwrapped toys.
Finished with your
Christmas shopping and don't want to fight the crowds?
You can donate online here.
My husband and I always get a kick out of
picking
out toys to donate for this and we'll be shopping tomorrow for it.
Since becoming a Marine mom in 2003, I have learned how important it is for military parents to connect with other military parents,
not to believe everything in print or on television, and that every one of us has a strength deep down inside to draw upon when we
need it most. My hope here is to share online resources for parents looking for answers, and to let you know that you are not alone.
I
know - this is a site - not a blog. I kinda got carried away.
Yes I know there are broken links on this page. I'm blaming the GREMLINS!
